Slate steps

I bought 12 big pieces of slate today and put them in one of the front flower beds. They kind of extend the sidewalk into the flower bed and then end up in the grass on the other side. Because of the shape of the bed it’s easier to walk on the slate than to walk all the way around the end of the bed.

It looks nice. I think I’m going to plant some kind of steppable plants between the pieces. I think it needs a little something to help fill it in more.

I have some “walk on me thyme” seeds. But since the mulch is new I’m not sure if I plant the seeds in the mulch if they will grow. I will have to google it and find out.

The Mulch Fiasco

Over a week ago dh borrowed his father’s trailer so he could get mulch for the yard. I have a new perrennial border that needs mulch desperately because the weeds are starting to take over. We also need to remulch the older beds so they have a fresh batch on top of the old mulch.

Where’s my mulch? Not here yet.

Last week was a bad week because we had plans and dh was unable to get the mulch. Even if he had we wouldn’t have had time to lay it. This week he swore he’d get it and then we’d work on it Saturday morning.

Today is Friday. He hooked up the trailer to his truck this morning before going to work. He had plans to get off work at 3:00 to go and load up with mulch. He calls me at 8:20 this morning while I’m at the busstop and leaves a message.

“I’m in meetings all day. Can you call Anderson’s and make sure they are going to be open when I go this afternoon? The earliest I can get off is 3.”

I immediately called Anderson’s.

Me: “What time do you close today?”

Lady at Anderson’s: “For mulch you have to be here by 2:30. And we’re closed tomorrow.”

Me: speechless and wanting to cry.

Earlier in the week I told dh to call and make sure they were going to be open and that he wouldn’t have any issues. He didn’t listen! See what happens when you don’t listen to your wife?!!

I have no idea what’s going to happen now. We’ve needed this mulch for almost a month. We’ve had the borrowed trailer for over a week. How much longer can this go on?
